The upcoming 2017-18 Global Robot Camp will be held from February 10th to the 13th at Kangwon National University in the Baekryong Sports Center (in Gangwon, Chuncheon). The event is sponsored by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement, and hosted by the Gangwon Information and Multimedia Corporation.

The Global Robot Camp will be held during the PyeongChang Winter Olympics and has been designed to offer high quality robot education and hands-on robot experience to children in Korea and abroad who are enthusiastic about robots. Because the field of robotics will play a central role in the industries of the future, the camp seeks to play an active role in cultivating the robotics manpower of the future.

The camp will be run by CNPLUS Co, Ltd. and the Institute of Control, Robotics and Systems; invitations for applications have been offered twice, once in November 2017 and a second time in January 2018. This year’s Global Robot Camp will be attended by a total of 224 primary school children selected from within Korea and around the world. 104 of the participants will come from outside of Korea, from 10 countries including the United States, China, Australia, Israel, and Indonesia.

The 2017-18 Global Robot Camp will offer stimulating, hands-on programs that will allow the children to explore a wide array of career choices. The first day of the camp will familiarize the children with basic robotics through education on basic driving robots, a special presentation of unmanned aerial vehicles, and robot performances. The second day will allow the children more time to become better acquainted with the robots through a tournament in which the participants can create their own robots by coding and using their robots in friendly competitions. On the third day, various robot competitions will be held, such as robot coding, robot car races, and Codrone obstacles meets. On the final day, the participants will head out to the Animation Museum and the Toy Robot Studio before holding a Closing Ceremony to conclude the event.

This event is an exciting opportunity to bring together children from all parts of the globe. As such, the participants will be treated to a visit to the Women’s Snowboard Halfpipe Qualifying round on Monday February 12 as spectators to experience the spirit of the PyeongChang Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

This camp is a global educational program that will make use of Korean robotics products and is an opportunity for children in Korea and abroad to come together and explore their common interest in robots. It is yet another step towards nurturing global robotics talent.
