Doosan Robotics (www.doosanrobotics.com CEO Byung-Seo Lee) will be introducing collaborative robots in a sequential manner to the production line at Iljin Group’s subsidiary company until the end of next year.

Iljin Group, a client of Doosan’s Collaboration Robot 1, will be installing the robots into the manufacturing processes of major subsidiaries until the end of 2018, with plans to expand this even further in the future. Hyundai Motor, who has been working with the company since the product development stage in 2015, has recently been closely examining whether to introduce robots to their production lines as well. In addition, companies in a wide range of industries including electronics, cosmetics, food, and furniture are also conducting field tests to see whether they should bring in collaborative robots.

Doosan Robotics has revealed that it has completed construction of a collaborative robot factory at the Suwon Industrial Complex in Gosaek-dong, Suwon, Gyeonggi-do. The total area of this space is 4,451 square meters with an annual production capacity of 20,000 units. Mass production of four models has already begun.

Upon completion of their plant, Doosan Robotics is endeavoring to secure a domestic distribution channel. While the company is entering the domestic market next year, they are also eying the overseas market as well, as they plan on selling at least 1000 units annually, until by 2022 – the 5th year of mass production – they reach their goal of 9,000 units sold annually.

According to a Doosan Robotics associate, "With the completion of the Suwon plant and mass production, we have taken a step forward in the collaborative robot market, where rapid growth is expected in this era of the 4th industrial revolution." He continued, "As a leading company, we will use our position to push the market to further growth through continued research and development and investment.”

Doosan's robot production plant has been equipped with a “fool proof” design to prevent its workers from malfunctioning, and an in-line process tester (IPT) procedure to verify the quality of each work process, allowing these collaborative robots to produce superior quality products. In particular, during key manufacturing processes, human workers and collaborative robots will work together allowing “robots to produce robots.”

Doosan's collaborative robots are equipped with an industry-leading collision detection system to ensure safe collaboration with workers. With a margin of error of 0.1mm and good repeatability, and a high performance torque sensor mounted on each axis, the robot is capable of performing delicate tasks – even ones that require a “human touch.” Depending on the model, it is able to lift up to 15kg with a maximum working radius of 1.7m.
