Intelligent convergent solution specialists Hancom MDS (www.hancommds.com formerly MDS Technology, CEO, Myungsub Chang) has vaulted into the robotics market by acquiring CoreBell (www.corebell.com), a company specializing in intelligent robots.
Keeping in step with the multifaceted paradigm of the 4th Industrial Revolution, the Hangul and Computer Group have been pursuing growth strategies that include aggressive M&As, broad-spectrum industry-academia cooperation, and partnerships in order to push the boundaries of industry and corporation. Based on this group’s growth strategy, Hancom MDS established a robotics business earlier this year.
Hancom MDS developed a Robot AI Service Server Platform (RSSP) based on embedded and IoT technologies, which are at the core of the intelligent robot system – in its pursuit of its business strategy; the recent acquisition was part of its active efforts towards expansion. From the “Intelligent Logistics Robot,” which can load and move goods to a designated location, to the “Intelligent Exhibition Robot,” which can carry out customized information and commentator services, and the “Air Purifier Robot,” which can track and move to indoor areas of contaminated air, the company has amassed a wealth of innovative technologies.
By supplying their robot commentators to the Seodaemun Museum of Natural History, National Museum of Korea, Daegu National Science Museum, Gyeonggi Museum of Art, Hyundai Museum of Kids’ Books and Art at PanGyo; and autonomous driving robot systems to Chungju Horticultural Agricultural Cooperative, Sungju Wolhang Agricultural Cooperative, Coway, and SKC, among others, CoreBell has become Korea’s leading service and industrial robot provider.
With the acquisition of CoreBell, Hancom MD has managed to secure core technology for the development of intelligent robots as well as the capacity to supply the fully finished service and industrial robot products. The strategy was intended to maximize the synergy between the two companies and, with the incorporation of SW and HW, to establish an intelligent robot business system. From the perspective of Hancom MDS, this was an opportunity to actively foster their intelligent robot business through R&D and marketing support.
By incorporating the SW technologies of their affiliates such as Hangul and Computer Group, the company is looking forward to building a diverse ecosystem composed of education, healthcare, security, safety, entertainment, industrial automation, and other fields.
Hancom MDS CEO Myungsub Chang spoke, “We plan even greater fortifications to our intelligent robot business with a new growth engine in this era of the 4th Industrial Revolution.” He continued, “we will continue with our multi-front business enhancement strategies to synergize the embedded and IoT technologies through M&As, strategic partnerships, and R&D collaborations in order to grow our intelligent robot business.”
Hancom MDS will gain CoreBell's stake of 58.07%. With CoreBell’s 2018 estimated sales amounting to KRW8Bn, Hancom MDS’ growth is expected to a steep one.
